Congress optimistic of winning Shimla MC elections

Shimla, Apr 27 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) today expressed optimism that the party will emerge victorious in the May 23 Shimla Municipal Corporation elections.

Addressing mediapersons here, party spokesman Kuldeep Singh Rathore said the party has kicked off its election campaign and would ensure that the party continues to maintain its hold over the corporation.

The party has initiated the election campaign as per the directives of the HPCC chief with a slogan ''development process to continue,'' he said.

Mr Rathore said people of the state have faith in the policies and programmes of the Congress, which had been winning the Shimla Municipal Corporation elections time and again.

A meeting of party and frontal organisation members had been convened on May 3 to ensure proper coordination between them, he said.

Besides, he said, the meeting would also chalk out the party's strategy for the corporation elections.

The party has so far received 100 applications from aspiring contestants for the MC elections, he said the Congress spokesman said.

Referring to involvement of BJP MPs human trafficking and cash for query scams, he said these episodes had exposed the party and the people of the state vote against it.

A party, whose members were being caught in various scams, had no right to point fingers at others, Mr Rathore added.
