Yudhvir award to Kamla and Jagdish Mittal

Hyderabad, Apr 26 (UNI) The 16th annual Yudhvir Foundation awards will be presented to eminent art scholars Kamla and Jagdish Mittal for their contribution to the field of art.

Yudhvir Foundation Chairman and Former state Chief Secretary Narendra Luther said the award, consisting of a citation and purse of Rs 50,000, would be given to the couple on April 30, at a function. This is the first time that a couple will jointly receive the award.

CCMB Founder-Director and Knowledge Commission Vice-Chairman P M Bhargava would present the award.

He said apart from the main annual award, a 'Yudhvir Gold Medal' has been instituted at the Osmania Univerity for the best student of Masters in Communication and Journalism every year to promote educational, cultural and physical activities among the students.

The Chairman said the foundation would also award a 'Yudhvir Gold medal to the best student of Mother Krishna Bai School of Nursing every year.

The main aim of Yudhvir Foundation, set up in 1991 to commemorate the life of late Yudhvir, was to propagate his noble ideals and to honour those who contribute to national integration, social service and service in the field of human endeavour.

Mr Luther said late Yudhvir, born in 1921 at Lahore, was a freedom fighter, a social worker and renowned journalist.

Imprisoned for his political activities many times, he came to Hyderabad in 1949 and started Daily Milap, first in Urdu and later in Hindi. His wife late Seeta Yudhvir was also a freedom fighter, social worker and served as a member of Rajya Sabha for two terms.

The 'Jagadish and Kamal Mittal Museum of Indian Art' was established in 1976 in Hyderabad by noted art scholar and artist couple, who donated their exquisite collection of Indian Paintings and art objects to the trust.

The Museum's collection comprises 2,000 traditional arts and crafts objects of the Indian subcontinent, including miniature paintings, drawings, folk and classical bronzes, metalware, manuscripts and examples of calligraphy, textiles, ivory and jade objects and others.

Yudhvir Foundation Secretary and Hindi Milap Editor-in-Chief Vinay Vir, son of late Yudhvir, was also present on the occasion.
