Women major beneficiary of NREGA in Tripura

New Delhi, Apr 26 (UNI) Women have emerged as major beneficiaries of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in Tripura with 75 per cent of 45.74 lakh person days of employment going to them in the first phase during 2006-07.

About 17.14 per cent of the employment opportunity under NREGA has gone to SC and 60.78 per cent to ST in the one district of state where it was implemented in the first phase. Another 2 Districts have been added in the year 2007-08.

In the State 0.67 lakh households have demanded employment and all the households have been provided employment up to February,07. The average number of households provided employment in a district of the State is 66,656, while the national average is 91,685 households. In the State 200 household have completed the 100 days guarantee of employment provided in the Act.

The employment was provided on 2,415 works, of which 2,312 works have been completed. The average number of works taken up in a district is 2,415, against the national average of 3,581. An amount of Rs 19.15 crore has been released to the State during 2006-07.

Against this, the utlisation up to February 2007, is Rs. 42 crore, which is 88.25 per cent of the total availability.
