Temperature changes due to wind direction
Visakhapatnam, Apr 26 (UNI) The Cyclone Warning Centre(CWC) Director L Prasad today said the sudeen rise in the mercury was not a matter of concern over the last four days as the mercury climbed beyond 38.8 degree C, while the maximum temperature reached 39.7.
He said ''this is a normal phenomenon and it has been the same during the month of April for the last couple of years. It happens due to change in the wind direction, he added.
Mr Prasad said till the third week, the wind direction was from the sea to the land and that had a cooling effect. In the last few days the direction was from the north-western lands and that brought the heat wave, he added.
The Director said the heat wave would not continue over a sustained period, as the wind direction would keep changing. The change was already felt last night, as the temperatures dropped to 37 degree C, with the slight change in the wind direction.
Andhra University Meteorology and Oceanography Professor OSRU Bhanu Kumar said the heat over coastal Andhra Pradesh would continue to remain the same, but Rayalaseema and Telangana would experience isolated heat because of the coal fields.
