Students raise voice against power theft
Chandigarh, Apr 26 (UNI) About two lakh students have raised their voice against the menace of power theft in rural areas of Haryana by organising rallies in big villages.
A spokesman for the Power Utilities said rallies, which began on April 23, would pass through all major towns and villages raising voice against the menace of theft of power during this campaign.
The students, he said, raised slogans against theft of electricity projecting it as a social evil. They disseminated the message that had there been no theft, there would have been no shortage of electricity in the state, the spokesman added.
He said many big villages had already been covered in various districts of the State under this campaign. Sarpanches and elder persons of villages, Education Department and District Administration took active participation in the rallies.
He said that electricity worth Rs 700 crore was pilfered by the people every year in the state. This could be sufficient to strengthen power transmission and distribution system to the extent that there would be no shortage of power in the state.
