Steps to maintain Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium taken: Shajahan

Puducherry, Apr 26 (UNI) The Puducherry administration is taking steps for proper maintanance of the Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium here, Education Minister M O H F Shajahan told the legislative assembly today.

Replying to a question, he said expression of interest in this regard had been called for through advertisements and more than seven firms had applied and submitted their rules and regulations.

The administration after studying it would appoint one for the prupose, he said adding the indoor stadium in Yanam, was being constructed at a cost of Rs 9.92 crore.

AIADMK member A Anbazhagan, who posed the question pointed out that the Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium and the Indira Gandhi sports complex were not being maintained properly and no progress was there in setting up a hockey turf in the complex.

Replying Mr Shajahan said the work on setting up the hockey turf was delayed due to some customs problems since materials would have to be imported from foreign countries. Now the materials had arrived and the work would commence shortly, he added.
