MPHC notice to govt on DMAT

Jabalpur, Apr 26 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notices to the state government and others on a public interest plea by the ABVP challenging the procedure being adopted for this year's Dental and Medical Admission Test (DMAT) for private medical and dental colleges.

Chief Justice Anang Kumar Patnaik and Justice Krishna Kumar Lahoti yesterday issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Secretary (Medical Education), Judges Committee -- appointed for monitoring the Test -- and the colleges' Association. May 9 was fixed as the next date for hearing.

''The Association is organising the DMAT on May 20 but not implementing Supreme Court directives in that regard,'' said Petitioner's Counsel P K Kaurav. Transparency was allegedly lacking and quality principles not being implemented. Several ''anomalies'' existed in the application form's rules.

The plea said that heavy bungling took place in last year's DMAT and there was no provision for centralised counselling this year.

The petitioner urged the Bench to have the Test conducted by the government.
