Make India humane
New Delhi, Apr 26 (UNI) Delhi Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna today urged budding engineers to work towards making the country a 'humane and caring techno-economic power' of the world and the city its 'intellectual capital'.
Speaking at the annual convocation of Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) here, he said though engineers had their feet on the ground, they look upto the sky to visualise innovative products and creative implementation.
There was a need for professional excellence in the engineering field to achieve zero-tolerance compliance with proper technical specifications compatible to world standards, he said.
''India was presently embarking on massive programme of infrastructure development and expansion, and our engineers have to play a votal role in these long duration assets that would serve the country for decades to come,'' he added.
''Engineers are the ones who convert knowledge into wealth, they are the knowledge workers, who will determine the competitive advantage of a country,'' he said.
Mr Khanna said there was a need to train the engineers to manage technology and build synergistic linkages, and networks to inter-weave technology strategy into business strategy was going to be very crucial for future progress.
He lauded the achievements of DCE students and faculty in technological innovations such as designing of cars and participation in international competitions, designing of biodiesel reactors and consultancy projects for earthquake-resistant buildings.
He presented degrees to successful graduates on the occasion.
Mr Abhishek Chatterjee won the Lt Governor's Gold Medal for the year 2005-06 and Ms Shruti Dhingra bagged the Chief Minister's Gold Medal.
