Kashmir Consumer forum awards Rs 6 lakh to kin of deceased
Srinagar, Apr 26 (UNI) A consumer protection forum here awarded Rs six lakh in favour of the kin of the deceased officials of police, education and agriculture departments.
A Divisional Consumer Protection Forum, comprising Rashid Ahmad Lone, M I Kirmani and Amina Farooqui, decided eight cases of the 'Janta Insurance Scheme' in a Lok Adalat here.
The officials of the National Insurance Company and the Finance Department were also present.
After hearing the arguments on both the sides, the Forum awarded Rs six lakh in favour of the kin of the deceased officials belonging to police, education and agriculture departments.
In a previous hearing, the Forum had directed the New Delhi-based Nice Kashmir Transport Company to pay a compensation of Rs 2,84,361 to Mohammad Sadiq Halwai for non-delivery of a consignment.
The Forum made the proprietor of the transport company, S Amarjeet Singh, to pay the amount to Mr Halwai in its presence.
Halwai had filed a complaint in the Forum saying that he had booked 88 bags of sugar purchased at Meerut through the company for transportation and delivery at Srinagar, but the consignment was not delivered at the specified location.
A non-bailable warrant was issued in the name of the proprietor for delaying the payment of Rs 2,84,361 to the complainant.
The Inspector General of Police, Kashmir on the directions of the Forum, took prompt action and arrested the defaulter. He was presented before the Forum today.
The proprietor later deposited Rs 2,84,361 for onward payment to the complainant.
