Five more cricket bookies held in Haryana

Chandigarh, Apr 26 (UNI) The Haryana Police has nabbed five bookies involved in betting on World Cup semifinal between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at Gurgaon.

The state police had yesterday arrested nine cricket bookies, from a farmhouse in Sonepat district owned by the family of a senior IPS officer.

A police spokesman today said police had received information about betting racket being run in Gurgaon. Acting on the tip off, police nabbed five accused who were identified as Rahul Vohra, Manoj Jain, Rajiv Kumar, Dheeraj and Sanjay of Delhi and Sham Bhadaur of Nepal.

Police recovered seven mobile phone, 23 chip attachments, one tape recorder, one monitor and a calculator from the accused. A case had been registered against them under section 420, 467, 471 and 120 of IPC, he added.

Meanwhile, police conducted raids in differnt parts of the country in connection with the arrest of nine bookies from the Sangeeta Gardens farmhouse at Murthal on the G T Road yesterday for accepting bets from punters on the Sri Lanka-New Zealand semifinal of the World Cup.

The inter-state gang of bookies belonged to different places in Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Jharkhand.

Police had recovered 23 mobile phones, two laptops, two rcording machines, a TV set, a printer, a mike and a calcultor from them.
