UP: EC stops Khaga poll; death of Cong candidate
Lucknow, Apr 26: Election Commission has countermanded the elections of Khaga assembly seat in Fatehpur district, where polling is scheduled for Saturday next, following the death of the Congress candidate in an accident this morning.
EC sources here said the election of the Khaga seat has been countermanded following the death of the Congress candidate Munna Lal Maurya.
Mr Maurya was going towards Khaga from Fatehpur when his vehicle dashed against a truck coming from the opposite direction in the early hours today. His driver was also critically injured in the accident.
The Congress candidate was immediately rushed to the SRN hospital at Allahabad after the accident, where he was declared brought dead.
Campaign for the Khaga seat, where polling is slated in Phase-V on April 28, was to end this evening.There were 15 candidates in the fray for the seat.
