Chennai, Apr 26 (UNI) The Centre today submitted before the Madras High Court, various criteria and norms that should be followed by the schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in all matters of admission to Standard XI.
When a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Prof S Anandalakshmy, Convenor, Concerned Citizens' Committee, seeking a direction to ensure that all students of Class X in a school affiliated to the CBSE are admitted to Class XI in their own school to the groups of their choice, came up for hearing before a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice Chitra Venkataraman, Assistant Solicitor General P Wilson made the above submission.
Following this, the Bench posted the matter to tomorrow, to ascertain views of the schools who are before the court on the criteria and norms suggested by the Centre.
Elaborating the criteria and norms, Mr Wilson submitted that admission of a student from Class X to Class XI within the same school should not be treated as a fresh admission but only as continuation of the original admission done in the school.
Issuing transfer certificate to class X students within the same school and readmitting them to class XI was against the rules.
All students of the same school, who have qualified in Class X board examination, should be offered admission to Class XI as far as possible and subject to the availablity of seats.
Students from other schools may be considered for admission only after accommodating the students of their own school.
