BJP cautions UPA on any compromise on Kashmir
New Delhi, Apr 26: The BJP today warned that it would not allow the Centre to make any concessions to Pakistan on Kashmir, reminding the UPA Government of the unanimous resolution passed by both Houses of Parliament that Jammu and Kashmir was an integral part of India and negotiations should only be held to take back Pak-occupied Kashmir.
The party said it was receiving very disturbing reports that the government was negotiating an agreement with Pakistan to resolve the border issue.
"What is this agreement or understanding? the whole country will like to know. We want Prime Minister should take the country in confidence," BJP Parliamentary Party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said, cautioning that cessation of any part of Kashmir would not be tolerated.
Mr Malhotra described as ''sinister'' the talks of joint mechanism, joint petroling and demilitarisation and said it was expected that Prime Minister make a statement to clear the cloud.
The party also lashed out at the Centre for not taking any action against Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani for making a pro-Pakistan speech at a public meeting in Srinagar where Lashkar-e-Toiba activists were present in large numbers and Pakistan flag was hoisted.
Describing the Centre's stance as "condemnable", the party said no police or para-military forces were posted at the venue of the public meeting.
The party had earlier also raised the issue in the Lok Sabha during Zero Hour demanding immediate action against Geelani and other separatist leaders. He said the lax attitude of the Centre was only encouraging separatists.
Mr Malhotra said the UPA had adopted this attitude to win Muslim votes in UP elections where even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had gone over board to announce that the Centre would provide hundred per cent grant for Urdu medium schools.
It was nothing but crass vote bank politics and misuse of religion for votes, he said, asking Mr Singh what wrong had been by schools having other medium of teaching.
