A hike in auto/bus fares in offing in Delhi
New Delhi, Apr 26 (UNI) A hike in auto, taxi and bus fares could be on the cards in Delhi soon, as committee set up by the Delhi Government considers demands from Bus, auto and tax operators for an increase in fares.
On a meeting of the Fare fixation committee tomorrow, headed by Delhi Finance Secretary and comprising the Planning secretary and officials of the Delhi transport department, the agenda is to consider the demands from several quarters for a hike in auto, taxi and bus fares.
Under consideration, is a proposal for a hike in auto fares from Rs 3.50 per km to Rs 4.50 per Km and that of taxis from the present fare of Rs 6 per km.
Further, a change in bus fare structure is also under consideration of the committee.
Under consideration is a hike in the lowest bus fare from Rs 2 at present to Rs 5. Further, a revision in slabs, from the present slabs of Rs 2, Rs 5 and Rs 7, to Rs 5 and Rs 10.
Representatives of the auto, taxi and bus operators have been meeting officials of the transport department over the last couple of days to put forward their demands for a hike.
Based on the representations from the operators, the fare Fixation Committee will give its recommendations to the Delhi government.
A final decision on the recommendations is expected at a meeting of the Delhi Cabinet on Monday.
