ULFA ambushes Army patrol, four jawans injured
Guwahati, Apr 25 (UNI) At least four army personnel were critically injured today in an ambush by the ULFA in Arunachal Pradesh.
Army sources here said an IED, planted on the road by the militants, exploded when an army patrol of the 581 Artillery Regiment was passing at Nango, around 12 km from Saokham police station in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh.
Soon after the blast, the ULFA rebels opened indiscriminate firing on the armymen.
Four jawans were seriously injured in the ambush and rushed to the hospital.
However, commander of the ULFA's ''Charlie Company'' Jiten Dutta claimed that 12 Army personnel were killed in the IED blast.
Eyewitnesses said the blast was very powerful, and the casualty could be higher.
This was the first major strike by the ULFA rebels after eight of its cadres were mowed down by the Army near Tikribam in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh on April 10.
