New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) Janata Party President Subramanaiam Swamy today described as "ridiculous" Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K.Karunanidhi's remark about the Supreme Court that "the fate and future of 100 crore people being decided by two or three people is harmful to democracy." "His(Karunanidhi's)innuendo was in reference to a Supeme Court Bench of two or three judges staying the 27 per cent quota for OBCs provided for in a statute passed by Parliament," Dr Swamy said in a statement issued here.

The Janata Party leader said Mr Karunanidhi clearly had no understanding about democracy. It was the rule of law not of persons.

"All that the Supreme Court had asked for was the data base on which Parliament had concluded that 27 per cent of the population had suffered inherent disabilities from age old discrimination from upper castes and stayed the application of law till then," Dr Swamy said and asked why was the UPA Government reluctant to provide the data base and get the stay vacated.

The matter had to be decided by two or three or eleven judges because that was the institutional framework of the Constitution under which Mr Karunanidhi held his post as Chief Minister, Dr Swamy pointed out."Judges are selected by nominations approved by the Government and the President. They can not be rubber stamps once chosen," he said.
