Mumbai, Apr 25 (UNI) A local court has granted time to the Mumbai police till May 8, to investigate a complaint against diamond king and film financier Bharat Shah for allegedly insulting a security guard of the Royal Palm estate here for his tribal origin on February 8.

The direction was given by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate A S Mohabde yesterday.

He had earlier issued a notice to the police for their inability to file a chargesheet against Shah under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (prevention of atrocities act) within a stupilated time.

Following the issuance of notice, the police contended that the matter was being investigated and prayed that they be given more time.

According to a private complaint, filed by a young tribal security guard Lahanu Pathare on February 8 this year, he was posted at the Royal Palm estate. When he stopped and asked Shah, who was on way to the estate, about the purpose of the visit, he became angry and allegedly abused Pathare and his tribal origin.

Insulting a person of his tribal origin is an offence under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (prevention of atrocities) Act 1989. Following the incident, he filed a complaint against Shah, who denied any knowledge of such allegations.
