Nine injured, 60 houses flattened in Meghalaya

Shillong, Apr 25 (UNI) Nine people were injured and at least 60 houses flattened when a severe squall and heavy rains hit several parts of Meghalaya late last night.

The high velocity wind and rain also uprooted trees in the suburbs areas of the city here, disrupting power and telecommunication services.

In West Khasi Hills district, three villages - Mallangkona, Nongriankan and Laitjynrai -- were damaged while four people, including two women, were injured, District Magistrate F Kharlyngdoh told UNI over the phone from Nongstoin.

Similarly, in Umroi village at Ri-Bhoi district heavy storm and rain trampled at least 20 houses and destroyed standing crops.
