National Badminton Championship for Referees and Umpires from Apr 27
Manipal, Apr 25 (UNI) About 40 former National Shuttlers from 13 States can be seen in action in the National BAI Umpires/Referees Badminton Championship to be held here from April 27 to 29.
In the Tournament, organised as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), shuttlers including former national champion Manjushah Sahasrabudhey (Maharashtra), Gaurav Khanna(Uttar Pradesh), Rajiv Mehta, (Delhi), Charanjeet Singh (Chandigarh), Neeraj Kumar (Bihar) and Raju (Meghalaya), among others, are participating.
Talking to newsmen here MIT Joint Director Dr P K A Muniswaran said that the Tournament of this nature was held for the first time in the country under the auspices of Badminton Association of India (BAI).
He said that the Tournament would be held in Nine events including Singles (Men and Women), Doubles (Men and Women), above 45 years Men Singles and Doubles, above 50 years Men singles and doubles and mixed doubles.
Stating that this event would become an annual feature henceforth, he said that next year the event would be held in Pune.
Tata Padukone Badminton Academy Director and former National Champion Vimal Kumar would inaugurate the Tournament on April 27.
