Nagaland provided employment to 28 thousand households under NREGA

New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) According to an official release issued here today, under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA)in Nagaland, up to January this year, 28,000 households demanded employment and all of them were provided employment in the State.

NREGA which was initially launched in one district of Nagaland has been now extended to four more districts during 2007-08.

The average number of households provided employment in a district of the state is 27,800 while the national average is 91,685 households.

The number of person days of employment provided in the state is 11.82 lakh. The average person days of employment provided in a district is 11.82 lakh compared to the national average of 36.47 lakh person days.

An amount of Rs 4.30 crore has been released to the state during 2006-07. Against this, the utlisation up to January 2007, is Rs 13.28 crore, which is 89 per cent of the total availability.

The expenditure on wages is 58.16 per cent, material is 39.39 per cent and on administration is 2.45 per cent. The average expenditure of a district in the state is Rs 13.28 crore compared to the national average of Rs 35 crore.

The Act provides that 1/3rd of the employment provided should be to women. In the state 29.95 per cent person days of employment has been provided to women and 100 per cent to members of Schedled Tribes (ST).
