Former Cong minister got Rs one crore in City Centre project

Ludhiana, Apr 25 (UNI) The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) today claimed that former local bodies minister Choudhry Jagjit Singh received a sum of Rs one crore for according his approval to the controversial multi crore Ludhiana City Centre project during Congress rule.

In an informal chat with mediapersons here, VB officials probing the City Centre scam, claimed that the amount was paid to the former minister by a top functionary of Today Homes and Infrastructure, the company that executed the project under the directions of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT). The amount was paid at a prominent city hotel, they stated.

The officials further claimed that the former minister handed over the amount to a LIT employee with the instructions that the money be taken to Chandigarh.

Choudhry Jagjit Singh alongwith former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and 16 others are amongst the alleged accused in the multi crore scam. The scam was probed by the VB and a case was registered last month at Ludhiana.

The other main accused in the case are the former LIT Chairman Paramjit Singh Sibia, senior Today Homes officials and former Punjab Congress chief H S Hanspal and one Capt Rajesh, said to be a close associated of Capt Singh. So far four persons--two employees of Today Homes and two LIT officials, chief engineer Manmohan Singh and Executive Officer D C Garg have been arrested in the case.

Meanwhile a local court today further increased the police remand of Manmohan Singh and D C Garg by a day. The two were arrested on Friday last by the VB.

The hearing on the anticipatory bail applications of Choudhry Jagjit Singh and 3 officials of Today Homes was adjourned by the Additional District and Sessions judge Gurbir Singh for tomorrow.

District Attorney M S Goel opposed the bail applications on grounds that all the four were key figures in the case.

Former chief minister Capt Singh has already got anticipatroy bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the case.
