Delhi to have 18 new RUBs
New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) Delhi Urban Development minister A K Walia today spelled out an over Rs 650 crore plan for constructing three grade separators and 18 Road Under Bridges on various railway crossings in the city before commencement of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
These projects would be executed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for which Delhi government gave its green signal today. Delhi government had earmarked Rs 300 crore in the current fiscal for MCD to execute transport sector projects, including those for the Commonwealth Games.
Dr Walia said construction of RUBs and Road Over Bridges on railway level crossings were needed in order to curb accidents and ensure smooth flow of traffic.
Delhi government had instructed the MCD to award contracts for these projects within the next six months and complete their construction within stipulated time limit to avoid cost escalation.
The minister informed that 50 per cent cost of RUBs would be borne by the railways whereas rest would be taken care by the local agencies including the Delhi government.
The 18 RUBs would cost Rs 402 crore whereas three grade separators at Subhash Marg/Delhi Gate, Pankha Road-Dabri Crossing and Rani Jhansi Road from Filmistan to Boulevard Road would cost Rs 256 crore.
The decision was taken in a meeting, presided over by Dr Walia, by senior officers of the state Urban Development Department and the MCD Engineer-in-Chief.
