2.37 lakh person days of employment created in Mizoram under NREGA

New Delh, Apr 25 (UNI) The Centre has launched the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) programme in two districts of Mizoram during 2006-07.

It is further being extended to 2 more districts in the current financial year.

According to an official release issued here today a total of 0.19 lakh households demanded employment and 0.06 lakh of them were provided employment up to December, 2006.

The number of person day of employment provided in the State is 2.37 lakh. The average person days of employment provided in a district stands at 1.19 lakh compared to the national average of 36.47 lakh person days. Of them, 33.08 per cent are provided to women and 100 per cent to members of Schedule Tribes (ST).

The employment was provided on 263 works, out of which 216 works have been completed. The average number of works taken up in a district stood at 132 against the national average of 3,581.

The average number of households provided employment in a district of the State was 3,333, while the National Average stands at 91,685.

An amount of Rs 17.84 crore was released to the State during 2006-07. Up to December 2006, Rs 10.28 crore was utilized, which is 40.02 per cent of the total availability.

The expenditure on wages stood at 96.65 per cent and on administration 3.35 per cent was spent. The average expenditure on a district came out to be Rs 5.14 crore compared to the National average of Rs 35 crore.
