Swami Sukhabhodananda wins social service award

Bangalore, Apr 22: The Essel Karnataka's Best Social Service Award has been won by the well known spiritual leader, Swami Shukhabhodananda.

Swami Sukhabhodananda was voted by the people of Karnataka as the State's Best Social Service Leader from among five nominees short-listed by an eminent Jury. The Swami runs various charitable organisations, said a statement issued by the Essel Group.

The jury headed by retired Judge of Karnataka High Court Justice M P Chinnappa, comprised of Right to Livelihood Award Winner, Dr Ruth Manoramma; Former Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council, V R Sudarshan, eminent physician B Ramana Rao, Mysore University Journalism Deoartment Reader Dr K J Joseph, and others.

In the NGO category, the award went to Mangalore based Nagarika Seva Trust. The activities of the trust include safeguarding the interests of farmers, gender equality, development of Dalit Community, rights of tribals and self help groups. The trust also periodically conducts conventions on people's power and right.

Ayyappa M Masagi and Yashoda V Gujjar won the award for their individual contribution to the welfare of the people.

Intel Technologies has won the award under the Corporate Social Responsibility, (CSR) category, in recognition of its relentless service to the under privileged, the statement said.
