Srinagar, Apr 22 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have unearthed a nexus between some businessmen and employees of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) and seized about 200 kg of 'chana (pulses)' meant for poor children from a shopkeeper in Handwara area of Kupwara district.

Superintendent of Police, Handwara, Dr Haseeb Mughal said police, acting on specific information, seized 200 kg of 'chana (pulses)', which had been sold to local shopkeepers by the ICDS employees.

He said the supply was meant for distribution among the children by anganwari workers of the ICDS centre at Wadipora.

A case had been registered at Handwara police station in this regard and investigations taken up, Dr Mughal added.

During the course of investigations, he said two shopkeepers -- Abdul Rashid Malik and Abdul Ahad Mir -- were arrested.

In this regard, five ICDS employees -- Habibullah Mir, Shaheena, Hafeeza, Fareeda, and Shahmali -- have been arrested.

Dr Mughal said the arrests exposed the nexus between the ICDS staff and businessmen of the area. Further arrests and recoveries were soon expected, he added.
