Most complaints under RTI Act resolved in K'taka
Madikeri, Karnataka, Apr 22 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Information Commissioner K K Mishra today informed that of the 576 memoranda and 1,828 complaints received under the Right to Information Act in the State, 502 memoranda and 1,200 complaints were cleared from January 2006 till March-end.
Speaking to newspersons here after inquiring into 21 complaints under the Act, he said section six of the Act stipulated that if officials concerned did not give out information, people could prefer a complaint. The erring officials would be imposed a fine ranging from Rs 250 to Rs 25,000.
Earlier, Mr Mishra inquired Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav, Superintendent of Police Ramachandra Rao, Deputy SP Venkataswamy, Tahsildars, taluk panchayat and village panchayat officials on a complaint from 'Asthra', a non-governmental organisation based in Bangalore, that the officers refused to divulge information. After interrogations, 18 out of 21 complaints were resolved.
