Mercury in capital crosses 40 degree mark again
New Delhi, Apr 22 (UNI) The heatwave across the capital continued unabated for a second consecutive day today.
While the maximum temperature in Delhi rose from yesterday's 40 degrees Celsius to 40.7 degrees C, the minimum dipped from 24 to 23 degrees C, one degree above normal.
The roads wore a deserted look and only a few commuters could be seen at the generally crowded bus stands.
Temperature crossing 40 degrees C as early as April is normally a rare phenomenon. It was only twice that the mercury crossed the 40 degree mark in the past five years.
However, this year has been unsually warmer than ever.
Even worse is the prediction by the weatherman. He calls it only an indication of things to come, presenting a frightful prospect.
Delhi and other parts of Northwest India have been reeling under a severe heatwave for the last four days with the barometer hovering at three to four degrees above normal.
