Shillong, Apr 22 (UNI) The Food Corporation of India (FCI) employees of the North East Frontier Region today urged Chief Ministers of the seven states to secure the immediate safe release of FCI Executive Director, North East, Phool Chand Ram from ULFA's clutches.

The ULFA had demanded a ransom of Rs 21 crore for Dr Ram's release.

Dr Ram was abducted along with his driver Rabiram Basumatary on April 17 from Asom's Ulubari area on Guwahati-Shillong road.

The FCI employees had also threatened to agitate in a befitting manner if the Chief Ministers in the region failed to secure their release.

Asom Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi recently said all efforts were on to rescue the two hostages from the clutches of the ULFA.

Meanwhile, an operation had been launched to rescue the FCI official and his driver.
