Elderly woman to contest UP poll

Kaushambhi, Apr 22 (UNI) Breaking all barriers of age, an 85 year old woman is contesting from Chayal area of Kaushambhi district in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh assembly election.

Laxmi Devi is contesting on a Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) ticket from Chayal assembly seat, going to the polls under Phase VI on May 3.

Laxmi Devi is the wife of Late Babu Gasuriya, who was a former MP from Chayal and was close to the country's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Besides, raising slogans of ''Roti, Kapda aur Makaan'' (food, clothing and shelter) like the Congress, Laxmi Devi asserts ''I desire to bring a change in the polluted politics of the country.

Justice and development would be the two issues on top priority for me in the area.'' Meanwhile, people are appreciating the courage of the candidate.
