Campaign to ban incandescent lamps in India

Kolkata, Apr 22(UNI) In a time when global climate change is a cause of concern among environmentalists worldwide, banning of incandescent lamps will help reduce carbon dioxide emission by 55 million tonnes annually.

Revealing this, Greenpeace, a global Non-government organisation, Energy campaigner Soumyabrota Rahut today told UNI that the organisation was creating awareness camps in various cities.

The campaign has begun in all the metros and big cities,including Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad.

''We are collecting as many signtures as possible from people in all these cities and then place our memorandum to the Union Power Minister to urge him to ban these bulbs,'' he said.

The NGO has started a national campaign in major Indian cities to make people aware about the hazardous effects of incandescent lamps and save people from its hazardous effects. Mr Rahut mentioned that Compact Fluroscent Lamps(CFL) are energy efficient.
