Bomb threat to Chennai Port, coast guard on high alert
Chennai, Apr 22 (UNI) The Coast Guard has been put on high alert and heightened security arrangements had been put in place at the Chennai Port Trust following an anonymous threat of a bomb-attack on the Port.
Port sources said here today that the handwritten letter posted from the Southern Tirunelveli District and received at the Port Chairman's Office yesterday, warned that a boat laden with explosives, would explode at the Port.
The port authorities had upgraded the security to tier-two and the entry and exit points of the port had been tightened.
Patrolling had also been intensified on the water front and a close watch was being maintained on the movement of boats.
Additional personnel have been deployed on security duty.
CISF personnel, who were in-charge of security, were asked to conduct extra checks both inside and outside the port.
Coast Guard sources told UNI today that they have been placed on high alert to prevent intrusion of any unauthorised boats into the port.
All the Coart Guard ships on patrolling duty were asked to be extra cautious and additional personnel had been put on all boats as part of the enhanced patrolling.
