Bhubaneswar, Apr 22 (UNI) Bisthapan Birodhi Janabikash Andolon (BBJA) leader B D Sharma today opposed the idea of asking the MNCs to directly purchase land from the land losers for the SEZ.

Addressing the newsmen here, the BBJA leader said the Prime Minister has formed a Group of Ministers (GOM) to review the SEZ policy, who had suggested that the company should directly deal with the land acquisition and the land losers.

'' Such a policy will lead to ruling of muscle and money power in acquiring land for the SEZ,'' Mr Sharma said adding that it would be one of major 'anti-people' policy the government had ever taken.

Mr Sharma described the GOMs view point as a ''tiger negotiating with the lamb'' and condemned the policy stating that,'' the state government can not just wash up its hand on the matter.'' It was also duty of any state to safeguard the interest of its people, he remarked.

He said, ''We are not against the development but it should be at the terms of the local people likely to be affected in the process.'' Coming down heavily on Orissa's new Rehabilitation and Resettlement(R&R) policy, Mr Sharma said,'' there were no commitments in the policy but only promises.'' The new policy, he said the policy even ignored the points mentioned in the Centre's R&R policy in 2003 like ten times of the area required for any project would included in the rehabilitation and resettlement, as they were likely to be affected by the project.
