J&K govt orders inquiry into woman killing; files FIR
Baramulla, Apr 21 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered an inquiry and also filed an FIR against troops for allegedly killing a woman in a forest in north Kashmir.
Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kupwara, told UNI that an FIR has been registered in this connection and those found guilty will be punished.
He said an inquiry has also been ordered into the incident which will be completed within a month.
Ex-gratia of Rs one lakh was paid to the next of the kin of the woman killed yesterday in the firing. Besides, one of the family members was also given a government job, he said adding that the relief money and the appointment order was handed over to the affected family today.
Earlier, hundreds of people took to streets and blocked the main Sopore-Kupwara road demanding stern action against the troops involved in the incident.
They said Fazi, wife of late Abdul Razak was on her way to the forest to collect firewood when troops opened fire without any provocation and killed her.
They alleged troops deployed in the area were harassing locals, particularly women and did not allow them to go into the forest area.
