Indian, Chinese diplomats visit SIM's Park
Coonoor, Apr 21 (UNI) The Indian and Chinese diplomats today visited the famous SIM's Park at Coonoor ahead of their two-day boundary talks here.
The Indian diplomats headed by M K Narayanan, National Security Advisor and Nirupama Rao, Indian Ambassador to China and the ten-member Chinese delegation led by its Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo, visited the park.
They also enquired about the various species of trees in the park.
Mr Narayanan enquired about the 'Rudraksha' tree (bead tree) in the park. He was presented beads by the park authorities.
Established in 1874, in an area of 12.14 hectares, SIM's park is a natural garden, housing rare exotic trees like 'Rudrakasha', Cinnamomum, Araucaria, Quercus, Bhounix, Magnolia, Turpentine, Preeserns and Camellia among others.
Most of the exotic varieties of the trees were brought from various continents. They also visited the Island grounds in the park.
The park houses more than 1000 species of trees.
