Asom: ULFA asks parties to root for fasting women

Guwahati, Apr 20: The banned ULFA has asked all political parties in Asom to join hands to pressurise Centre to provide information about whereabouts of their 'missing' leaders, whose wives are on indefinite fast since March 21 last.

In the editorial in the latest issue of its mouthpiece "Freedom", the insurgent group cautioned that in case something went wrong with the fasting women, the political parties in the state would face the 'consequence'.

The militant group also called upon International Human Rights Commission to make the Centre try and find a solution to the ULFA issue.

Meanwhile, Pro-ULFA People's Committee for Peace Initiative in Assam (PCPIA) has set sunday deadline for the government to meet its demands for reviving the peace process with the ULFA and provide information about whereabouts of 'missing' ULFA leaders failing which it would announce a series of agitation programmes on Monday.

Earlier, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi appealed to fasting women to withdraw their agitation saying that he had submitted before the court whatever information was supplied by Bhutan authorities about handover of arrested militant leaders after the operation 'All Clear'.
