TN Govt introduces Bill in assembly to amend HR
Chennai, Apr 20 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today introduced a Bill in the Assembly to amend the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Act, 1959, in order to remove the restriction on the number of non-official members to be nominated to Advisory Committee.
Moving the Bill in the House, HR&CE Minister K R Periakaruppan said the Act empowered the government to constitute an Advisory Committee to make recommendations on certain matters relating to the administration of religious institutions.
However, under the Act, the government could nominate non-official members not exceeding eight along with official members to the said Committee.
In view of the larger interest of the institutions and in getting the suggestions, various heads of Mutts and experts from various fields had to be accommodated in the Advisory Committee. The government had, therefore, decided to remove the restriction on the number of non-official members to be nominated to the Advisory Committee by amending the said Act, the Minister said.
Mr Periyakaruppan said it was not possible at this stage to estimate with any degree of accuracy, the expenditure to be incurred as a result of the proposed legislation.
