Service tax evasion of Rs 191.7 cr detected in B'lore zone
Bangalore, Apr 20 (UNI) The Bangalore zonal unit of Central Excise Intelligence, covering Kerala, Karnataka and Goa, has detected service tax evasion to the extent of Rs 191.78 crore in 114 cases during the fiscal 2006-07, a statement said.
The Directorate also detected evasion of Central Excise duties to the extent of Rs 19.45 crore in 19 cases. The total amount of evasion detected had increased by 110 per cent over the previous year. An total amount of Rs 44.01 crore had been realised out of these detections.
Major corporations to whom demand notices were served, involving an amount of more than Rs ten crore Service Tax, included SAP India, IBM India Ltd, Karnataka Breweries Corporation Ltd, McDowell and Co, Herbertsons Ltd and United Breweries Ltd, Additional Director General Somesh Arora said the statement said.
