Series of abductions create fear psychosis among officials

Imphal, Apr 20 (UNI) Frequent abductions of officials by unknown persons have created fear psychosis among officials in Manipur.

The functioning of the Manipur Electronics Development Corporation (MANITRON) has been affected since four of its officials were abducted by unknown persons.

Employees of DRDA Imphal West has threatened a ceasework stir as the executive engineer M Raju has been abducted by some unidentified persons Officials said he was abducted on March 31 last.

The officials, Thangjam Saratkumar, Thounaojam Santosh Luwang, Bijaychand and Devendra are still untraceable after they were abducted on April 16 last.

Meanwhile, the Threatened Indigenous Peoples' Society (TIPS) and other organizations have appealed to those involved in the kidnapping to release the officials on humanitarian grounds.

The engineering department of Manipur had also threatened to resign enmasse to protest harassment of engineers.

The DM A Abocha said to ensure peace and stop occurrence of untoward incidents, prohibitory orders under CrPC 144 has been clamped in Imphal West areas and assembly of five or more persons and carrying of objects likely to cause injuries to others have been totally prohibited.
