Mumbai, Apr 20 (UNI) India has to comply with the World Bank directives to disseminate the advantage of economical growth to the deprived sections of the country, Chronic Poverty Research Center (CPRC) director Dr David Hulme said.

Despite being a significant power amongst the emerging super economies, India is seen as a failure to bring in the benifits to the grassroots, Mr Hulme said while addressing a seminar here today.

The failure in implementing welfare policies among the downtrodden, especially people from states like Bihar, has nullified the economical advantages in poverty eradication in the country, he said.

''India has to deal with the domestic poverty than to put in attentions over the global poverty. However, the failure in implementing the welfare programmes coupled with inefficiency to converge in to actual grey areas, should be resolved at a fast pace.'', he noted.

The introduction of the much-hyped National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme is yet to reach the deserving sections like Bihar that indicates the slow-pace in policy execution in the country, Mr Hulme added.

Dr Rakesh Mohan, who presided over the seminar, fingered the opening of Indian economy in early 1990s as the key factor that has contributed to cap poverty in India compared to the past decades.

''There are concerns that still need to be addressed. But the country has come a long way forward in curbing poverty since the days of independence,'', he added.
