Hoardings from Capital's skylines to go
New Delhi, Apr 20 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today directed the Municipal authorities to remove all hazardous hoardings from the skyline of the Capital as they are distracting the attention of the drivers.
A division bench of Justices T S Thakur and H R Malhotra said, ''This bench would not be interferring with the judgement pronounced on March 26. At best if you submit a policy on hoardings within four weeks, we might concede to some exceptions.'' Express your bonafide(intension) by removing hazardous hoardings from the skylines, said the bench while hearing a review petitions filed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi(MCD).
The court observed that the authorities should take steps to beautify the skylines instead of painting it ugly.
Adjourning the matter till May 25, the court asked the MCD to consult some experts and architects on the issue so that the skyline of the capital was beautified.
However, Court commissioner Rajiv Avasty opposed the move saying that the hoardings are distracting the concentration of the drivers with flashy and running lights. They are also polluting the atmosphere with thier generators emitting carbon dioxide fume.
Senior Counsel Rajiv Nayar and A S Chandihoke appearing for the MCD and two licencee holders submitted that the Supreme Court direction in the M C Mehta case had allowed hoardings at selective places.
