1017 Km road constructed in Bihar under PGSY: Raghuvansh

Patna, Apr 20(UNI) Union Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh today informed that 1017 km long roads had been constructed, with an expenditure of Rs 562 crores, under the Pradhanmantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PGSY) in Bihar.

After reviewing the progress of the PGSY in the state, Mr Singh told newspersons here that despite all constraints the central agencies engaged in the construction work had made positive achievements in the state. Construction on 3,524 Km long roads under the scheme was in progress and formalities to float tendres for 965 Km were underway, he said.

Mr Singh alleged that the state's law and order problem was a major hurdle in the progress of the road construction. He said extortions were being demanded at some places whereas the extremists had unleashed a reign of terror at other places by openly displaying posters and by attacking the workers. The extortionists were making phone calls from places like Singapore and Mumbai, he alleged.

Even after admitting cooperation by the state government in tackling all hurdles, Mr Singh used abusive languages against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi and state road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav.

Mr Singh further said developmental works had been taken in the state with the help of the Centre and reiterated that all villages with 1000 population would be connected by pucca roads at an expenditure of Rs 9000 crores by 2009.
