Punjab government floats 2 thermal power companies

Patiala, Apr 19 (UNI) The Punjab Government has floated two power companies for setting up two mega thermal power projects in the state, so as to meet the increased power demand.

These two companies- Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) and Nabha Power Limited (NPL) will be wholly-owned companies of the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB).

TSPL will take up the development of a coal-based, environment friendly 1,200 MW Thermal Power Project (TPP) at Talwandi Sabo (Banwala) in Bathinda district while NPL will set up another 1,200 MW thermal power project at Nabha in Patiala district.

PSEB today issued a global invitation for Expression of Interest (EOI), inviting national and international developers for participation in the two projects. The Power Finance Corporation Ltd (PFC) is the consultant for these projects and procurer of power will be the PSEB.

Giving detail, an official spokesman said here today the projects will be awarded to a developer selected on the basis of tariff based competitive bidding. He said project will be awarded according to the policy of the Government of India which has allowed 100 per cent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in power projects.
