Karnataka cabinet clears SLP on cauvery tribunal verdict

Bangalore, Apr 19 (UNI) The Karnataka Cabinet today cleared the Special Leave Petition and clarificatory petition to be filed in the Supreme Court against the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal regarding disproportionate allocation of water by Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal before the Supreme Court.

Home Minister M P Prakash briefing newsmen said the cabinet meticulously observed that the drinking water for two-third of Bangalore should not have been ignored by the tribunal.

''All the precautionery measures have been taken and counter arguements done by the neighbouring states have been considered,'' he said referring to the SLP and clarificatory petition which the government would be filing shortly before the Apex court.

Tamil Nadiu government was willing to file a petition on the issue based on how Karnatka takes up its move in this matter, he said.

Later, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti said that the roads development had been taken over from Zilla Panchayat and given to state owned departments in three coastal districts.

The cabinet also authorised the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to nominate five members to the Legislative council to fill in vacancies to be crated in in June. The retiring members were Prabhakar Kore, H Hanumanthaiah, V Hasanabba, Ms Umashree and Ramesh Raju.

The cabinet sanctioned to open a veterinary college in Hassan at a cost of Rs 77 crore.
