Jaya accuses DMK, Maran of intimidating Jaya TV

Chennai, Apr 19 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today accused the ruling DMK and Union Minister of Communications and IT Dayanidhi Maran of indulging in intimidation tactics against the Jaya TV.

Talking to newspersons at the party headquarters here, she alleged that the DMK government was making all out efforts to arrest industrialist S Vaikundarajan, one of the major shareholder in Jaya TV, under the Goondas Act.

Claiming that Mr Vaikundarajan was facing intimidation from Mr Maran, who was trying to acquire the majority shares of the businessman, she alleged that both as a ruling party in the state and as a coalition partner at the Centre, the DMK had exceeded its limits to subjugate the Opposition.

She said Jaya TV was the only channel left for the Opposition to highlight the ''autocratic'' functioning of the DMK regime in a democratic manner, as important dailies had blacked out her views if it went against the DMK government or Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

To prevent Jaya TV from airing views of the Opposition, the state government was taking all steps to throttle it and finally force it to close down, she alleged.
