Jai Kishen Sharma leader of Congress party in MCD

New Delhi, Apr 19 (UNI) Congress councillor Jai Kishen Sharma was today elected the leader of the party in the new MCD with a majority of newly-elected councillors naming him as their choice for the post.

A meeting of the newly-elected Congress councillors, attended by 65 out of the 67 Councillors, 45 expressed their preference for Mr Sharma.

The meeting, held under the chairmanship of All India Congress Committee secretary J.D. Seelam where Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee Vice-president Matadin Yadav and General Secretary Om Prakash Bidhuri were present as observers, It was decided by Mr Seelam that everyone will individually express their preference to him and the observers at a closed door meeting about their choice of the candidate for the Leader of the Congress Party in the MCD, and slips were issued to mention their preference in writing.

44 Councillors expressed their preference for Mr Sharma while 20 others did not give their preference.

The observers later announced the name of Mr Jai Kishan Sharma as the Leader of the Congress Party in the MCD.
