HC issues notice to MCI on admission discrepancies
Jabalpur, Apr 19 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notice to the state government and Medical Council of India on alleged discrepancies in admission to postgraduate courses in the state's medical colleges.
Chief Justice Anang Kumar Patnayak and Justice Krishna Kumar Lahoti yesterday issued the notice, returnable in four weeks, to Medical Education Secretary, Director of Medical Education and Medical Council of India on a petition filed by Bhopal Medical College's Pharmacology Demonstrator Shailendra Kumar Patne who prayed for quashing the examination rules saying it had discrepancies.
Petitioner's counsel Aditya Sanghi told the court that Demonstrators posted in medical colleges were allowed to seek admission in the same subject only, while the medical officers of the Health department were given the facility to opt any subject in the post graduate course.
The petition said Dr Patne secured fourth rank in the merit list of post graduate admission examination 2007, but, during counselling, was denied admission in MD (Pharmacology) nor was eligible to study any other subject. However, medical officers having equal educational qualification and completing five years service were given the chance to opt any subject of their choice, it added.
