Haryana sugar mills to crush 340 lakh quintals sugarcane

Chandigarh, Apr 19 (UNI) Cooperative Sugar Mills in Haryana will crush about 340 lakh quintals of sugarcane during the current season as against 196 lakh quintas crushed last year.

While stating this here today the Minister of state for Cooperatives Meena Mandal said that so far the ten cooperative sugar mills had already crushed about 300 lakh quintals of cane as against 194 lakh quintals crushed during the corresponding period of last year. The payment to the sugarcane growers was also being made expeditiously.

She said that the cooperative mills had so far paid Rs 293 crore for the cane procured for crushing. The process of making outstanding payments amounting to about Rs 100 crore was going on, she added.

Mrs Mandal said that the crushing of cane by the cooperative mills was still in progress and all the sugar mills had been directed to purchase and crush the entire cane crop of the farmers before shutting down of the season. In order to facilitate the farmers to dispose off their cane in time, the surplus cane of Shahbad, Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat Sugar Mills was being crushed by Kaithal, Gohana, Jind and Meham Sugar Mills, she added.

She said that Shahbad Sugar Mill had shown outstanding results, crushing 57.41 lakh quintals of cane this season.
