Centre to amend Boilers act
New Delhi, Apr 19 (UNI) The Centre today decided to amend the Indian Boilers Act of 1923 to provide for inspection of boilers during manufacture, erection and operations and maintenance of boilers in line with the present technology developments throughout the world.
A meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, gave its approval for effecting a slew of modifications in the outdated Act, an official spokesperson told mediapersons.
The existing act has the provision only for inspection of boilers during use.
The Amendment Bill would help in creating competition for inspection of boilers during manufacture, erection and commissioning so that delays are avoided, she said.
It would help in minimising and preventing accidents and loss of human life from boiler-related accidents.
The spokesperson said the proposed legislation would indicate clearly powers of the Central Boilers Board.
The Bill will provide for adequate trained manpower and laboratory facilities for inspection of boilers during manufacture and use. It will bring in uniformity of standards of inspection and avoid the inter-state disputes.
