Baripada, Apr 19 (UNI) Mayurbhanj-based 'Bhanja Sena' has given a 24-hour-long ''Baripada Bandh'' call on May three to press its demand for establishment of a medical college here.

The outfit had been spearheading the demand to have a government medical college at Baripada.

The Sena also staged a dharna today, supported by all political parties, near the main entrance gate of the office of Mayurbhanj District Collector.

District Bar Association president Bijan Das, Baripada Municipality chairman Krushnananda Mohanty, former MLA Chhatish Chandra Dhal and Biju Yuva Janata Dal president Raghunath Mohanty addressed their meeting.

They claimed that the existing well-equipped district headquarter government hospital and the Regional Diagnostic Centre would make Baripada ideally suited for establishment of a government medical college.

In a memorandum to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, they argued that due to its locational advantage, the proposed government medical college at Baripada would provide stable and stronger health facilities to the adjoining border villages of Jharkhand and West Bengal besides being a great boon to the tribals of Mayurbhanj district.
