Abhi-Ash wedding celebrations spill over to Fatehabad

Fatehabad, Apr 19 (UNI) Though the family of Sarbjit Singh, a maternal cousin of Amitabh Bachchan, has so far not received invitation for the high-profile marriage of their star nephew Abhishek, the entire clan here is in celebration mode for the part few days over the mega event.

It was dance time yesterday for the family of Sarbjit Singh, son of Amitabh Bachchan's aunt Govind Kaur (mother Tezi's sister) as the Bachchan family celebrated 'sangeet ceremony' in their mansion in Mumbai.

Today they are distributing sweets as the bride Aishwarya Rai and groom Abhishek participate in the 'mehendi' (henna) ceremony for which reportedly 30 kg of super-fine henna powder has been sent by a known supplier to be applied by expert artisans.

In this small Haryana town, however, the women relatives are adorning each other's hands to feel a part of the large picture.

No visitor in the house of Sarbjit is leaving without a generous helping of best local sweet offered on the occasion of Abhi-Ash wedding.

Thrilled over the marriage, Sarbjit says, though far away, his family was keeping track of every development regarding the union through media and had been praying for its success.

He fondly remembers the days when his 'mausi' Tezi, who had met poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan at a seminar in a Lahore college and later settled with him in Allahabad, had taken her sister Govind Kaur with her family to Allahabad at the time of partition.

Later, Govind Kaur settled at Sirsa with her family. Amitabh Bachchan had visited the family twice in Sirsa. After his mother Govind Kaur expired, Sarbjit Singh moved to Fatehabad.

Even today the family photo of Sardar Khazan Singh, maternal grandfather of Amitabh and Sarbjit, with his daughters Teji Bachchan and Govind Kaur, holds a pride of place in Sarbjit's family relics.
